Laptops vs. Desktops

Laptops have now gotten real popular these days, but does that make desktops obsolete. We do find benefits in desktops, but can they be compared to laptops? First, let us discuss some of the specs of laptops and desktops. In a desktop, you can easily add and remove hardware and upgrade it with no problem. For example, you are a web designer and you need a lot of RAM to run your program, all you have to do is open the cover and add some RAM to the empty slots. Also a desktop tends to stay cool which can prevent hardware damage due to overheating. The only problem in a desktop is that it can take up some space in your room and it is stationary. This means it needs to be connected to electricity in order to turn on and it needs to be connected to a monitor in order to use. As for laptops, they are portable and can be taken anywhere without having to worry about electricity for at least 3-4 hours. You can also spare the wires that you need in a desktop because a laptop already has its built-in mouse, keyboard, monitor, and speakers. On the downside, however, a laptop is more of a permanent computer that can't be upgraded easily. Most laptops only have two slots for RAM and one slot for a hard drive. They can also get damaged easily. For example, if you spill a cup of coffee on a keyboard for a desktop, you can replace that keyboard with a new one for $20, but if you spill that cup of coffee on your laptop keyboard, you will probably damage your keyboard, motherboard, and CPU, and those are almost the whole computer. So now you have a worthless computer and if you go on to repairing it, you will probably pay as much as a new laptop would cost.

So now we have discussed the ups and downs of desktops and laptops, what do you think?
